Dominick Wilson led a great contingent of North Shore Rollers with his first-place finish in the 2013 Namekagon River Roll-Off held Sunday, July 21 in Hayward, Wisconsin at the Lumberjack Bowl.

Wilson won the U10 boys’ division, coming back from two rolls down in one match to win 3-2 in falls, and later holding off his strongest challenger, Dominick Magnone.

With the fans in the stands cheering for Dominick, one Dominick was sure to win! With Wilson up 2-0, Magnone came back to tie it up 2 falls apiece and set up a winner-take-all roll-off. But Dominick Wilson was at his best, winning the last fall in a very exciting heart-stopping final.

Paige Everson was the only other North Shore Roller to place. Paige took third in the U10 girls’ division, beating many fine rollers in the round-robin tournament.

The girls’ U-13 Division was stacked with four North Shore Rollers (NSR) teammates and a strong field of girls from Hudson, Hayward, Madison and River Falls, Wisconsin.

Reilly Wahlers finished fourth, beating teammate Wellesley Howard- Larsen, who finished fifth. Robin Henrickson lost to Wellesley and one other girl, but looked really good in her first tournament. Alisha Lashinski also lost two matches but put on a good show, taking several falls from her competitors. A little more tournament experience from these two will result in wins for them and the team.

Rolling in the deepest, cutest, and most adorable field, the U7 (pigtail) division, Taylor Everson just missed placing and looked fantastic in her matches.

In the professional class, Jessica Berg-Collman placed 6th out of 22 ladies in the Boom Run. The Cook County High School senior-to-be won her second logrolling match while losing several other close contests against older, more experienced pros.

North Shore log rolling coach and mentor Jenny Atkinson won her first log rolling match but then lost several hard-fought matches. The eighttime log rolling/boom running world champion took it all in stride and will continue to throttle the younger ladies whenever she gets the chance.

The Lumberjack World Championships were held this week in the same venue as the Namekagon River Roll-Off tournament. Once again the North Shore Rollers will be well represented at Worlds, and the following week the team will host the Fisherman’s Picnic logrolling championships, which are also the Minnesota State Championships.

Come out and cheer for your North Shore Rollers!
