Alexis Plummer’s first place finish in the U-7 co-ed division led the way for the Cook County YMCA North Shore Rollers at the Harold Fischer amateur log rolling tournament at the Hudson, Wisconsin YMCA on April 16.
Alexis defeated Ellis Priest of Hudson to take the championship match. She is the daughter of Dave and Amanda Plummer of Grand Marais.
Finishing second in the U-10 division was Allesandra (Ali) Duclos. Ali lost to Libby Magnone of Wauconda, Illinois three falls to one in the championship match. Ali is the daughter of Steve and Silviya Duclos of Lutsen.
Ali and Libby had an exciting match that went all of the way to the five log, the smallest diameter log used in competition. The smaller the log, the faster it spins. Competitors start on a one-log and roll for one minute. If there are no falls they roll on a two-log and roll for two minutes and so on. The match winner is the one who takes three out of five falls.
In her first tournament ever, Kamryn Johnson finished sixth place in the U-10 girls bracket. Just a beginner, Kamryn rolled well against kids with a lot more tournament experience than she has. Kamryn is the daughter of Tim and Kris Johnson of Grand Marais.
While this is the smallest team the North Shore Rollers has sent to the Harold Fischer tournament in many years, there are quite a few kids practicing at the Y who will appear in upcoming tournaments.
Although the season is young— logrolling tournaments take place late into the fall—Plummer is currently ranked second in the U-7 Girls United States Log Rolling Association (USLRA) Super Series while Ali Duclos is ranked third in the U-10 girls Super Series. Points are awarded based on place and how many tournaments kids roll in. To be eligible to win a top spot in the Super Series, kids have to roll in at least five tournaments sanctioned by the USLRA.
