The Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP) announces North Shore Ride Share, a free service connecting drivers and riders for travel, carpooling, and package pickup/ delivery. North Shore Ride Share will be available online at www.boreal. org/rideshare starting Tuesday, July 27.

TheNorth Shore Ride Share site makes it easy to match drivers who have space with those looking for rides. Drivers and riders simply go to the site, sign up for a membership, post listings for rides offered or needed, and then search or reply to other listings. The service is completely free, and anyone can use it. You don’t need to be a Boreal Access member to take advantage of North Shore Ride Share.

“We’ve needed this kind of service here in Cook County for a long time,” said Rick Schubert, CCLEP Ride Share Committee co-chair. “So many people drive long distances up and down the shore or around the county every day—Ride Share will help them team up to save money and fuel. It’s easy to use and totally free. We’re excited about providing this energy-saving tool for our community.” The North Shore Ride Share site will keep track of the CO2 saved by sharing rides.

George Wilkes of CCLEP adds, “As a business owner, I often have deliveries to make or packages to pick up. North Shore Ride Share will facilitate package pickup and delivery pooling, as well.”

Ride sharing is a good way to meet people and/or help friends. People can post stories of their ride sharing experience on the website. To help launch the service, the first 25 ride posters will receive $5 gift certificates from Buck’s Hardware in Grand Marais.

North Shore Ride Share was developed with input from community members, along with Boreal Access and Katherine Hellner of Grand Marais.
