North Shore public waysides report available

The public is invited to review and comment on a report of evaluations and recommendations for accessibility improvements at 16 public waysides along the North Shore Scenic Drive—most of them in Cook County.

Visitors of all ages and physical abilities enjoy taking their time as they travel the North Shore Scenic Drive (Trunk Highway 61). To enhance the traveler’s experience, there are a total of 68 public wayside pull-off areas located along the route to allow people to stop and safely enjoy the breathtaking views at their own pace.

In an effort to improve the experience of these wayside pull-offs for visitors of all abilities, the North Shore Scenic Drive Council worked with the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission to evaluate 16 of the most visited public wayside pull-off areas along the North Shore Scenic Drive for accessibility improvements.

The report can be seen on-line at: www.arrowheadplanning.org/nssd. Public comment is requested by Monday, Dec. 17 and should be submitted to: Bonnie Hundrieser, Senior Planner, Arrowhead Regional Development Commission. Hundrieser may be contacted by phone at (218) 529- 7527 or e-mail: bhundrieser@ardc.org.

This project was funded in part under the Coastal Zone Management Act by NOAA’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, in cooperation with Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program. Additional funding was provided by the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board.
