The North Shore Music Association (NSMA) recently received two grants from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council.
Art Project Grant
The NSMA of Grand Marais was awarded a $4,590 Art Project grant to help present an evening concert by three-time Grammy-nominated blues guitarist and vocalist Ruthie Foster. The concert will take place at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais on May 26, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Community Arts Learning Grant
North Shore Music Association was also given a $4,500 Community Arts Learning grant to help support the Bluegrass Masters Weekend 2017 that took place November 3-5 at Lutsen Resort in Lutsen.
The event featured three days of bluegrass community jamming; a full day of banjo technique and songwriting workshops taught by featured performer and instructor, Kristin Scott Benson; and an evening concert by the featured group, the Kristin Scott Benson Trio (Danny Roberts, mandolin and Chris Jones, guitar and lead vocals).
This banjo-focused weekend, open to all ages and musicians of all skill levels (beginner to advanced), also offered opportunities for one-to-one banjo, guitar, mandolin, and vocal lessons arranged with the three visiting artists.
The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council is a nonprofit that has been encouraging local arts development in northeastern Minnesota through arts funding and services for over 35 years.
