The North Shore Music Association is proud to bring Pura Fe to the Arrowhead Center for the Arts for a September 22 concert.
Pura Fé, whose name means “Pure Faith,” was born in New York City and is a member of the Tuscarora Indian Nation. A co-founder of the internationally renowned Native women’s a capella trio Ulali, Pura Fé has been recognized in her solo career for bringing Native contemporary music to the forefront of the mainstream music industry.
Her sound is infused with musical styles from folk to blues to “traditional music from all over the world, wherever the spirit is connected to our roots.” Her lyrics reflect the concerns of an artist who grew up the Motown era. She cites Buffy Sainte-Marie, Charley Patton, and Joni Mitchell as her true mentors.
Pura Fé has studied and performed with the American Ballet Theatre Company and has appeared in Broadway musicals. She’s sung with the Mercer Ellington Orchestra, countless jazz, R&B, and rock bands, and has stamped her distinct vocals on many recordings, music videos, and movie soundtracks. With her trio Ulali, she has shared bills with artists including Buffy Sainte-Marie, Miriam Makeba, John Trudell, Richie Havens, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and the Neville Brothers.
