North Shore Federal Credit Union’s (NSFCU) “Hunger Heroes” campaign completed its first month with great success. NSFCU members donated over $8,000 in March, and was matched by a $5,000 credit union grant bringing the total to over $13,000 donated to the Food Shelf programs in Two Harbors, Silver Bay and Grand Marais.

“Words cannot express how awesome our members are,” said Mark Summers, NSFCU president. “The North Shore Hunger Heroes program will really make a difference in preventing hunger along the North Shore, and we’re blown away by the way our members have joined in and contributed. It’s outstanding.”

Over 130 NSFCU members have enrolled in monthly donations during the first month of the North Shore Hunger Heroes program. Currently, these monthly commitments equal an additional annual contribution amount of $10,000 per year.

NSFCU has a goal of enrolling 1,000 members by the end of 2016, which will dramatically increase the annual contributions. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the local food shelf programs along with the backpack food program for students in the Lake Superior and Cook County school systems.

To become a North Shore Hunger Hero, stop in any NSFCU branch and speak with a teller. You’ll designate a donation amount and sign your name to give permission – the credit union will handle the rest. The credit union matched donations up to $5,000 during the month of March, and will match again during each Member Appreciation Week, and during the annual Holiday Hero program
