An application was submitted to the Minnesota Department of Health requesting a public interest review of increasing Critical Access Hospital bed capacity from 16 to 25 beds. North Shore Health will seek an increase of nine beds during the 2022 legislative session, rearranging the Critical Access Hospital and Skilled Nursing Facility bed capacity. NSH Director Kimber Wraalstad said the goal is to allow use of Swing Beds rather than Nursing Home Beds to reduce the financial loss associated with the cost allocations of a small hospital-attached nursing home.

The work on the former Masonic Temple is almost complete and new sleeping quarters for employees will be open sometime during the last week of September. All told there will be five bedrooms, a kitchen, showers and bathrooms for employees who are on-call.
