In March, the North Shore Health Care Foundation will host author and Hollywood voiceover professional Bill Ratner. Ratner is one of America’s premier voiceover performers on movie trailers, documentaries, commercials, and cartoons.
Ratner’s appearance will be Tuesday March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. The presentation is free and open to all ages from 8 to 88. His topic is Media Madness: a comedic, fun and critical look at 21st century electronic media.
Ratner came from an advertising family and landed his first job as a voiceover artist at age 14. He learned early that the media does not have children’s interests at heart. His career as one of America’s most popular voiceover artists and his life as a parent give him a bird’s eye view of the truth about electronic media, and gives readers a first-hand look at the real effects of technology and digital media on children and what you can do about it.
Ratner is a parent, public speaker, and educator. He founded the classroom program TV Cartoon Scandals: Media Awareness for Children for the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1992. His style is humorous and warm.
In his new book, Parenting for the Digital Age: The Truth behind Media’s Effect on Children and What To Do About It (Familius Press), Ratner tells how to start a babysitting co-op, reveals the strange, true story behind the marketing of Barbie and G.I. Joe, and much more.
In addition to his presentation, there will be book signing and refreshments.
Bill will also be speaking at the Networking Luncheon, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 8 at the Cook County Higher Education campus in Grand Marais. His topic will be Advertise and Promote your Business in Today’s Marketplace.
On Wednesday, March 9, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Bill will be at the Grand Marais Public Library for an informal coffee hour. Parents of young children are especially invited to this event. The library will open an hour earlier than usual.
In addition to these events, Bill Ratner will be speaking to groups of students at ISD 166 and Great Expectations School. He will also be doing an in-service with volunteers at WTIP and meeting with the WTIP youth Radio Project.
The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic’s outreach program is planning a Hot Potatoes discussion group for parents and youth around the idea of digital media, cyber Bullying, expectations, etc. on March 11. Bill Ratner will join this discussion via Skype.
