The North Shore girls’ cross country team placed four girls in the top ten at the Polar League conference cross country meet held Thursday, October 13 at Pincushion and literally ran away with the conference title.
South Ridge’s Evelyn Brodeen won the individual crown, narrowly beating CCHS runner Olya Wright. Brodeen’s winning time was 20:16.1 for the rugged 5k while Wright came across the line in 20:18.5.
North Shore finishers in order were Lamar Gordon 4th (20:34.1), Sierra Geatz 7th (21:35.9), Jocelyn Carr 8th (31:49.2), Lexi Surbaugh 13th ((22:27), London Smith 14th (22:29.9), Brianna Monson 21st (23:35.2).
The girls won the team title with 34 points. Coming in second was South Ridge with 43 points, Carlton/ Wrenshall was third with 61 points and Moose Lake/ Willow River/Barnum was fourth with 81 points. Esko didn’t field a full team of at least five runners.
Girls Junior Varsity
Emma Crook led the girls’ JV by placing second in the girl’s JV 5k race. Emma ran 24:25.7 to finish behind Neveah Manninen of Cromwell who won in 24:10.6. Next for North Shore was Claire Lindstrom 3rd (25:15.1), Genevieve Silence 4th ( 25:15.3); Signe Myers 9th ( 26:43.2), and Shawnda Everson 12th (31:16.3.)
North Shore won the girls’ JV race. They were the only team to have five runners finish.
Junior High Girls
Sophia Schut led the North Shore girls team with a second place (10:58.4) in the JHG 2.6k race. Audrey Collar of Moose Lake/WR/Barnum won with a time of 10:35.2.
Next for North Shore was Ryleigh Thorpe 3rd (11:13.1), Kinley Nelson 7th (11:26.9), Grace Swaetz 9th (11:42.5), Chloe Hipple 11th (12:03.1), Leah Belmore 14th (12:39.9), Hiver Moody 16th ( 12:51.4), Sophi Lindstrom 19th (12:57.6), Elizabeth Swartz 20th (12:59.3), Amelia Saamanen 22nd 13:01), Maya Rodriguez 31st (13:52.5), Anni Dix 32nd (13:54.3), Charlee Ernest 38th (14:47), Patience Sifferath 39th (15:06.6), Elizabeth Radke 41st (15:38.5), Hazel Liechty 42nd (15:55.1)
Boys varsity results
Cromwell’s Noah Foster won the boys’ individual title with a time of 16:31.6. North Shore senior Ian Thorpe placed second with a time of 17:07.
The next North Shore runners, times and places are as follows: Elijah Smith 9th (18:14.2), Cyrus Myers 10th (18:14.4), Brayden Schmidt 16th (19:13.7), Tristan Surbauch 17th (19:17.5), Nicholas Swartz 20th (19:30.1),and Keean Selin 21st (19:30.4).
Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum won the team crown with 43 points. North Shore was second with 49. South Ridge place third with 67 points, Carlton/Wrenshal was fourth with 99 and Esko placed fifth with 109 points.
Boys Junior varsity
North Shore‘s Clay Thorpe placed second to Moose Lake Willow River Barnum runner Max Petry in the individual competition to determine the Junior Varsity Boys’ conference champion. Petry’s winning time was 19:24.7 to Thorpe’s 19:49.6. for the hilly 5k race.
North Shore’s next runners, places and times were Andrew Hallberg, 9th (21:58.3), Haddon Taylor 11th (22:01.5), Finn Taylor 14th (22:39.9), Odin Hansen 15th (22:51), Alex Stone 16th (23:06.7), Isaac Schmidt 18th (23:50.7), Robert Rodriguez 19th (24:00.1), and Edwin Erickson (20th) 24:06.4), Nicholas Swartz 20th (19:30.1) Keean Sellin 21st (19:30.1),
The boys’ JV team placed second with 46 points. Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum won with 19 points and Esko placed third with 61 points.
Junior High Boys
North Shore placed five boys in the first seven finishers to take the Junior High Boys’ title with 27 points. Esko was second with 54, South Ridge third with 67 and Moose Lake /Willow River/Barnum fourth with 80 points.
Jeorge Gatica, Cromwell, won the 2.6k race with a time of 9:24.4. North shore runners piled in behind Gatica. Adam Oberg 2nd (9:30.3), Georgi Dimitrov 3rd (9:57.6), Grand Oberg 4th 9:59.4), Chance Jacobsen 6th (10:06.4), Ethan Fish 7th (10:12.5), General Higgins 9th (10:13.5), Talon DeBoer 13th (10:32.8), Elias Pszwaro 17th (11:18.7), Cole Pederson 19th (11:26.7), Dylan Obrien 21st (11:38.7), Erik Gischia 25th (12:00.3), Eero Moody 26th (12:00.6), Sydney Litterest 27th (12:06.1), Lucas Hackett 34th14:21.1), Lute Jansen 37th (15:38.2), Logan Smith 38th (18:23.8), and Reed Cruickshank 40th (20:01.8).
