The North Shore boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams ran exceedingly well at the Proctor Lion’s Invitational. Cross country meet held on Tuesday, October 18.
After the first five varsity runners’ places were added, the boys’ team placed second out of 18 teams, and the girls placed third. Winning the team competition for the boys’ and girls’ races was Duluth East. Hibbing girls just got by the North Shore girls to take second.
Boys varsity
Miles Fischer of Cloquet was the boy’s champion, running the 5k in 16:13.2. North Shore’s Ian Thorpe placed second with a time of 17:09.4. Next for North Shore was Cyrus Myers, 5th (17:53.7); Elijah Smith, 8th (17:59.1); Tristan Surbaugh 19th, (18:31.2); Nick Swartz 23rd, (18:42.2); Clay Thorpe 24th, (18:43.1); and Keean Selin 31st (19:17).
Boys junior varsity
The boys placed third in the team competition behind Hibbing and Grand Rapids. North Shore eighth grader Adam Oberg placed 8th in the boys’ 5k JV race. The next North Shore finishers were Chance Jacobsen, 15h (20:06.4); Grant Oberg, 16th (20:31.4); Haddon Taylor, 23rd (21:17.2); Isaac Schmidt, 31st (21:54.4); Rylan Brown, 34th (22:03.9); and Odin Hansen 38th (23:04.7).
Boys junior high
Georgi Dimitrov took top honors in the boys’ junior high 2.4k race to help his North Shore win the team competition. Georgi’s winning time was 9:13.3. The next North Shore finishers were Ethan Fish, 4th (9:24.6); Talon DeBoer, 5th (9:41.6); General Higgins, 8th 9:56); Elias Pszwaro, 17th (10:28.7); Erik Gischia, 18th (10:31.4); Cole Pederson, 17th (10:34.2); Ero Moody, 25th (11:04.4); Dylan O’Brien, 28th (11:25.4) Lute Jansen, 36th (14:30.4); Logan Smith, 37th 14:37.4); and Reed Cruikshank 40th (18:48.4).
Girls varsity
The North Shore girls had a strong showing at the Proctor meet, with three finishers in the top fifteen. Mileena Sullivan placed first with a time of 19:43.6 for the 5k race. In third place for North Shore was Olya Wright. Olya finished in 19:54.4 seconds, just a second behind Lizzy Harnell of Proctor, who placed second. In fourth place for North Shore was Lamar Gordon. Lamar crossed the line at 20:02.1. Next for North Shore was Sierra Geatz, 11th (21:00.2); Jocelyn Carr, 20th (21:35.9); Lexi Surbaugh, 22nd (21:55.4); London Smith, 25th (22:11.2); and Brianna Monson 32nd (22:35.2).
Girls junior varsity
The North Shore girl’s JV team placed second to Hibbing in the girls’ JV 5k race.
Emma Crook led the North Shore JV with an 8th place finish, crossing the line in 23:59.7. Finishing for North Shore was Ryleigh Thorpe, 11th (24:05.1); Claire Lindstrom, 12th (24:34.7); Genevieve Silence, 12th (24:34.8); Signe Myers, 15th (26:16.4); Amelia Saamanen, 19th (28:47.4); and Shawnda Everson 27th (30:07.7).
Girls junior high
Grace Swartz’s 5th place led the North Shore junior high team to a second place finish behind Cloquet. Grace ran the 2.4k race in 10:42.7. Hiver Moody was next, placing 8th (11:13.4); Sophia Lindstrom, 13th (11:51.5); Lis Swartz, 15th (12:05.2); Leah Belmore, 17th (12:27.1); Maya Rodriguez, 18th (12:34.9); Aili Gischia, 20th (12:47.6); Anni Dix, 21st (12:48); Hazel Liechty, 25th (14:15.9); Patience Sifferath, 26th (14:15.9); and Lizzy Radke 28th (15:25.1).
