North Shore Crafters launches a program to train people

North Share Crafters is a new program being launched here in Cook County over the next month. It is for people who would like to make some extra money while working at home. Responding to a demand by local merchants from their shoppers—who want locally made gifts and ornaments—North Shore Crafters will train people to produce crafts and get them to market in their shops.

Modeled on several similar programs, North Share Crafters will particularly focus on those who are under-employed in the non-tourist season, and those who are struggling to find adequate childcare.

A kick off meeting will be held at Wunderbar on Feb. 19, 5 p.m. (snacks and childcare will be provided). At this meeting, craft ideas will be presented—focused on woodworking, felting and sewing. Interested participants will be able to sign up for a follow-up workshop where instructions, patterns and materials will be made available.

Come on Feb. 19 to find out more. If you are interested but cannot attend this meeting, or if you have questions, contact Beth Kennedy at 387-1314 or Mary Ellen Ashcroft, 387-1536. Sponsored by Spirit of the Wilderness Episcopal Church.
