Chris Stevens, age 42, New Richmond, Wis., is the 2020 Norpine Fat Bike Classic champion for the 26-mile long course.
Stevens’ winning time was 1:50:53. He finished more than four minutes ahead of second place Thomas Olek, 33, who hails from Roberts, Wis.
The race started and ended at Cascade Lodge and Restaurant in Lutsen on Saturday, January 11.
Megan Barr, 33, Minneapolis, placed 10th overall. She was the women’s winner with a time of 2:21:33. Danielle Larson, 34, Minneapolis, finished a bike length behind Larson to capture second with a time of 2:21:36.
Brian Broomall, 35, Grand Marais, was the top local finisher. He placed 21st in 2:54:21. Max Wahlers, 57, Grand Marais, placed 23rd in 3:02:19, Adam Harju, 44, Grand Marais, finished 24th in 3:03:50. Anton Moody, Grand Marais, placed 29th in 3:07:33.
There were 41 racers in the field, 34 men and seven women.
Short course
Jared Scheel, 37, Saint Paul, won the 15-mile short court
Norpine Fat Bike Classic race held Saturday, January 11, in Lutsen. Scheel’s winning time was 1:16:19. He finished four seconds ahead of Jeremy Pomeroy, 44, of Marshfield, Wis.
Christina Spencer, 40, Chaska, was the first woman across the line with a time of 1:31:54. Michelle Lebow, 51, from Shoreview, was the second woman finisher. Her time was 1:40:56.
Mica Harju was the top local finisher, and she took third place in the women’s field with a time of 1:41:32.
Other local finishers included April and Tom Wahlstrom, Grand Marais. They placed 19th and 20th with a time of 1:44:39.
William (Bill) Lane, 65, Tofte, placed 28th in 1:55:51.
Lee Bergstrom, 59, Grand Marais, placed 29th in 1:59:20.
All told there were 42 entrants (31 men and 11 women) competing in the short course field.
