Norma Jean Thorngren, 81, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors.
She was born September 27, 1934 to Verlyn and Iva (Savage) Carr in McHenry, Maryland. With her father working in the construction industry, Norma Jean grew up in various locations on the East Coast, before moving to Two Harbors in 1951.
After graduating from Two Harbors High School in 1953, she married Dick Thorngren on November 28, 1953. This was the first wedding held in the village of Silver Bay. Norma Jean was employed as a secretary for Reserve Mining for over 26 years, retiring in 1985.
Norma Jean was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay. She enjoyed needlework, knitting, gardening, cooking, and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant sister.
Norma Jean is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Muntean of Tofte; and Robin (Bill Carpenter) Thorngren of Boise, Idaho; brother, Ronald (Carol) Carr of Frostburg, Maryland; and granddaughter, Emily Muntean.
