Staff photos/Jane Howard Author/photographer Betty Hemstad (right) talks to Bernice Howard of Grand Marais outside Chik-Wauk Lodge. Hemstad was signing her book Wildflowers of the Boundary Waters: Hiking through the Seasons. Chik-Wauk was one of three lodges featured during the second annual tour of Gunflint lodges, which features samples of the recipes found in A Taste of the Gunflint Trail, a book of lodge recipes and stories by women of the Gunflint Trail.
Loon Lake Lodge owners Tom and Terry Caldwell enthusiastically greeted and served guests. They have owned the lodge since 1984. It is one of the few GunflintTrail lodges that have never burned, according to hostess Biz Clark.
Rockwood Lodge, owned by Mike and Lin Sherfy, was one of three lodges featured in the second annual Taste of the Gunflint. Its historic beauty has been very well preserved both inside and out. The treats at Rockwood Lodge were tasty, with mincemeat pocketbook cookies even a chocolate lover would enjoy.
