No stars in Cities

I enjoyed Rhonda Silence’s Unorganized Territory about walking on a cold winter night and seeing all of the stars.

That’s one of the things I really miss about Grand Marais and Cook County—the immensity of the night sky on a cold winter night.

You are fortunate—no light pollution. Down here in the Twin Cities, unfortunately that is not the case. I think kids can grow up and never see the firmament. Like Arizona, we should have a state law requiring that all outdoor lighting to be downward  directed and meet ambient standards.
