OK, so it’s true that I have had a hard time with this Grand Marais “Coolest Small Town” thing, I admit it. Then I went away for two weeks to visit 17 states in 13 days.
Aside from having a blast with my sister and our friend Sue, laughing until sore while eating our way through the southern states and so on, we noticed that most places we visited were far from the standards of “our” town.
Dirty, customer service less than average, etc. Although the ocean, lakes and restaurants we visited were unique to us there was no comparison to driving the North Shore home and it wasn’t just because we were ready to be home. It is because of the beauty, the cleanliness, the safety and by far the friendliness…and maybe, just maybe, admitting that this is in fact the coolest small town.
There is no business in Grand Marais that cannot be proud of what they do and offer to tourists and locals alike.
