No lights, just repainted trafficlanes

I enjoyed Rhonda Silence’s Unorganized Territory
last week about streetlights at various intersections. I was the one who started the discussion. I talked to the county highway department about the intersection at County Road 7 and Highway 61. Coming from the west at night, with no moon or when it is foggy, you have a hard time seeing where to turn off Highway 61 onto County Road 7.

I asked if the highway department could, when they repaint the white lines, bring the white lines closer to Highway 61. I also suggested that they work with the state [Mn/DOT] to paint a white arrow on the turn lane. Thiswould help drivers. We need to make more use of the turn lane.

Theproject got out of hand. It reminded me of the Coastal Zone Management days, so I sent a diagram to county commissioners showing the minimal request (what the people wanted) versus the extreme plan to install streetlights (which the people don’t want or need)!
