An emergency call reported a truck rollover “two miles north of the Kimball Lake sign” on the Gunflint Trail at 6:06 p.m. on Friday, August 30. The caller was unsure whether there were injuries and Cook County Sheriff Deputies, Cook County Ambulance and Maple Hill Fire Department were paged to respond.
When emergency responders reached the scene they found that the driver, Spencer Garness, 24, of Hayfield, Minn. was out of the vehicle, a 2000 Chevy K1500 pick-up. Other motorists had stopped to help and were trying to upright the truck. The ambulance was cancelled, as Garness was not injured.
Apparently Garness, who was traveling north on the Gunflint Trail, missed the corner at the Northern Light Lake trail.
He was arrested for driving under the influence.
