No injuries in vehicle rollover in Hovland

Cook County Law Enforcement received a call at approximately 11:30 a.m. on June 16, 2013, reporting a one-vehicle rollover just off Highway 61 in Hovland near Judge Magney State park.

According to Minnesota State Trooper Leah Carpenter, the driver, Harold Lieberman, 91, of St. Cloud was attempting to turn into Judge Magney State Park. He turned too wide and his 2007 Chevy Impala went off the side of the road and tipped over onto its top.

Fortunately, said Trooper Carpenter, it was a very slow turn and a very slow rollover. Lieberman and his passengers, his daughter and granddaughter, were all wearing seatbelts.

Cook County Law Enforcement, Minnesota State Patrol and the Colvill and Hovland fire departments responded. Cook County Ambulance was paged, but cancelled as none of the three occupants needed medical treatment.

The vehicle was overturned and towed from the scene by Cook County Towing.

No citation was issued. Trooper Carpenter said this is not an uncommon occurrence on the rural roads in our area. She said people are not used to the fact that many Cook County roads don’t have wide shoulders.
