A large RV blocked the view at the exit from Cascade Lodge onto Highway 61 in Lutsen, leading to a two-car accident on Friday, September 30.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Tyler Theisen, 25, of St. Cloud, driving a 2007 Ford Explorer, attempted to enter Highway 61 from the Cascade Lodge driveway at about 10:52 a.m. A large RV was parked on the shoulder between the entrance to the lodge and the entrance of the restaurant, blocking the view of west bound traffic.
Jennifer Zender, 40, Grand Marais, was traveling west in a 2009 Honda Ridgeline and struck Theisen’s Explorer on the front driver side as he pulled out to make a left turn.
None of the individuals involved in the crash—Zender, Theisen or his passenger, Natasha Randall, 25—were injured.
Zender’s Honda suffered moderate front end damage. Theisen’s Explorer had severe front end damage. Vehicles were towed from the scene by Cook County Towing.
According to the State Patrol, Theisen failed to yield, however no citation was issued.
