No injuries, citations, in dump truck accident

KGM Contractors of Angora, Minnesota, the construction firm working on the Tofte section of Highway 61, contacted Cook County Law Enforcement at 1:48 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 reporting that one of its trucks had gone in the ditch near Chateau LeVeaux.

Contacted for information on the incident, Sgt. Mark Baker of the Minnesota Highway Patrol said a 1995 Freightliner belly dump truck, driven by Philip Bruce Stevenson, 58 of Willow River was traveling eastbound on Highway 61 following a 2010 Ford passenger vehicle driven by Brooke Renee Tapp, 29, of Brownsdale, MN. Tapp slowed to make a turn and Stevenson did not see a turn signal. He started to pass just as Tapp attempted to make a left-hand turn. Realizing that he would not be able to stop the Freightliner in time to avoid hitting the car, the driver entered the ditch, and jack-knifed the trailer.

According to Sgt. Mark Baker of the Minnesota Highway Patrol, the accident did not cause any lane closure and there was only minimal traffic disruption as the truck was pulled from the ditch. Baker said there was only minimal damage to the truck, owned by KGM Contractors of Angora, MN. There were no injuries and no citations were issued.
