To help Minnesota communities prepare for the invasion of the emerald ash borer (EAB), University of Minnesota Extension, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will offer several workshops around the state during the month of June. However, the workshop scheduled to be held in Grand Marais on June 14 has been cancelled due to low registration.
EAB has already been found in a three-square-mile area of Minnesota, so it’s important for communities statewide to prepare for the pest prior to its arrival.
Workshops, designed for community leaders, planners, foresters or others who are responsible for preparing their community for EAB, will be held at other locations throughout the state. The nearest location to Cook County is in Duluth at Lake Superior Community College. For workshop information and times, visit the MN Department of Agriculture website www.mda. state.mn.us/grants/grants/fprappropriation/ workshopsreg.aspx or call Renae Smith at (651) 201-6245. There is no charge for the workshop.
