No cabin fever at Birch Grove

Here we are, almost able to say good-bye to February 2016! For a short month it sure feels long. Cabin fever becomes a common topic for all of us.

This month Birch Grove Community Center was able to provide additional services for those needing help or a friendly place to visit.

The free tax aide program is available every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This service will be provided through April 14, 2016. No appointment is needed. Bring the necessary documents and last year’s return. Tom, Alta and Chuck will take care of you.

Cole Bauer is available to offer free IT Technical Support (donations appreciated). We are currently rotating scheduling between Tuesday and Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. You can check the dates on Boreal Access or by calling the center at (218) 663-7977.

I am very glad that Cole has made himself available to our West End community to assist the many of us who are technically challenged!

Please stop by and Cole will help you with your technical devices, software, security issues, etc.

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic has set up a six-month trial offering for nail/foot care. This service will be available the third Wednesday of each month through July. The appointment schedule begins at 12:30 p.m., each lasting 30 minutes.

Please call 663-7977 in advance to reserve a space. Denise Axtell RN will be providing this service. Patients should bring their own foot basin and towel.

The cost is $10 per person, cash only. Your feet will love you for this treat!

Thank you to Greg Fangel and Liz Wagner for donating their time to provide beginner cross country ski lessons. Those who attended had a good time.

It is always great to learn something new, if anyone out there has a skill, hobby or knowledge to share feel free to contact us and we can schedule a class. All ideas welcome.

The 6th Annual Boot Hockey Tournament has been scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2016. Registration will begin at 5:00 p.m., the first game to start at 5:30 p.m. The deadline for registration is Feb. 29.

There is an eight team maximum for the tournament with 5-7 players per team. The games will consist of two 12-minute halves. We will provide the bonfire, pizza, drinks and concessions. The suggested team donation is $25.

I know absolutely nothing about boot hockey, so any volunteers or assistance will be appreciated. The first things we need are players and I hope that everyone who participated last year will be able to join in this 2016 event!

We have such a wonderful space, programs and opportunities to enjoy at Birch Grove Community Center. We really are trying to create something positive here.

We continue to maintain our current programs, which include Senior Lunch, Ruby’s Pantry, Caregiver Coffee, Scrap ‘n Craft, and W.E. Fit Exercise with rentals available including community room and equipment.

Call 218-663-7977 or E-mail BGF@boreal.org with requests or questions.

We are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Thank you to all who contribute, participate and donate!
