It’s been a memorable and joyful holiday season for the residents at North Shore Health. There was music and caroling, plenty of holiday treats, gift giving, and most importantly – good times with family and friends. The residents want to thank the American Legion Auxiliary, the Grand Portage Auxiliary, Care Center employees, and many generous community members for their donations and gifts. We are blessed to live in such a caring community.
We have a lot of indoor fun planned for those cold days of January! We will be doing more winter crafting, lots of games, and more cooking activities to keep us cozy and warm.
There will be plenty of music too. The middle school choir will be at the Care Center to perform at 11 a.m. on January 8. Myron Bursheim will be here on Sunday afternoons, and Susan Scherer will play piano for us on Wednesday afternoons. Kate Kelnberger will also be here on January 15 at 3 p.m., and Amy Schmidt on January 21 at 2 p.m.
The first dance of 2019 welcomes Portage Band – the classic country band that performs at the Care Center the last Saturday of the month throughout the year. The event will be held on Saturday, January 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. As always, friends and family are invited to join us for any of our music events.
The January birthday party will be held on January 9 at 3 p.m. Doug Sanders will be here to play our favorite piano tunes, and there will be plenty of cake and ice cream to enjoy. Our two residents celebrating birthdays in January include Jean Roberts and Mary Anderson. Family and friends are invited to join us for the party.
The Grand Marais Lioness will host their social, with delicious dessert and music on Saturday January 19 at 3 p.m.
An outing to the Senior Center is planned for January 24 for lunch, and visiting with all our friends there.
January 20-26 is National Activity Professionals Week – a time to recognize how meaningful activities and leisure time enrich the quality of life at any age. The Activity Department staff would like to acknowledge the many dedicated volunteers who enhance our activity programming all year long. We couldn’t do it without you!
Happy new year to all from the residents and staff at North Shore Health Care Center!
