New Year activities at the Care Center

The holiday season was busy and joyful for residents at the North Shore Health Care Center. There were carolers of all ages, wonderful holiday treats, gift giving, and good times with family and friends. We especially want to thank the American Legion Auxiliary, the Grand Portage Auxiliary, North Shore Health employees, and several families for their generous donations. We are truly blessed to live in such a caring community.

The residents also received a special holiday gift when their new household was cleared for occupancy a few days before Christmas. This will give us plenty to do in the cold months ahead as we settle into our new space. Every resident now has their own private room. We also have two spacious kitchen, dining, and living spaces to enjoy some of the favorite winter activities such as crafting, baking, and playing games.

The monthly birthday party will be held on Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. This month we will celebrate Mary Anderson’s birthday. Eleanor Waha will provide the delicious cake, and Doug Sanders will be here to play our favorite tunes on the piano. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration.

There is an outing planned for Jan. 11 to the Senior Center to visit and have lunch with our friends there.

The Grand Marais Lioness Club will once again host their monthly social for residents with special desserts on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.

January 21-27 is National Activity Professionals Week— a time to recognize how meaningful activities and leisure time enrich the quality of life at any age. The Activity Department staff would like to acknowledge the many dedicated volunteers who enhance the activity programs all year long. We couldn’t do it without you!

Music this month will feature Myron Bursheim on Sunday, Susan Scherer on Wednesdays, and Pastor Daren Blanck for a gospel sing-a-long on Jan. 22.

The first dance of 2018 welcomes Portage – the classic country band that performs at the Care Center the last Saturday of the month throughout the year. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. As always, friends and family are invited to join in the fun.

Happy New Year to all from the residents and staff at North Shore Health Care Center!
