WTIP engineer Jeff Nemitz reports that the Gunflint translator for WTIP at 91.7 FM was scheduled to be shut down Tuesday, May 3 in preparation for replacing the current antenna with an all-new WKEK antenna. That meant the Upper Gunflint area would be without WTIP service for two days.
Nemitz said the testing of the new transmitter equipment would begin immediately after installation, but reception will probably will be “hit and miss” until the bugs are worked out.
When WTIP returns on the air to the Upper Gunflint, it will be as WKEK, Gunflint Lake, at 89.1 FM.
