New trail signs at Sugarloaf Cove win national award

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center recently enhanced its trail system by installing interpretive trail signs in strategic locations. The design of the signs subsequently won a bronze medal from the Summit International Awards – the oldest and most prestigious organization administering marketing awards exclusively for firms with limited billings. The project was funded by a $5000 Arrowhead Electric Cooperative Operation Round-Up Grant and with funds from Sugarloaf members and donors.

The project grant involved design and installation of 12 interpretive signs. The sign content includes information about the geology, human and natural history of Sugarloaf and the North Shore and are receiving rave reviews from visitors. The signs replaced a paper guide and will now offer year-round interpretation of the nature trail.

Founded in 1993 to protect and restore beautiful Sugarloaf Cove, Sugarloaf: The North Shore Stewardship Association promotes the restoration and preservation of the entire North Shore. We offer fun, educational programs for all ages at the Cove, and are teaching North Shore landowners how to become better stewards of their land through our forest restoration and invasive plant control efforts. Sugarloaf is a 501-c-3 nonprofit.

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center is located lakeside off Hwy 61 at mile 73.3 near Schroeder, MN. For more information call 218-525-0001 or visit www.sugarloafnorthshore.org.
