If you have stopped by the Grand Marais Post Office to mail a letter or pick up a package recently you may have noticed a new face behind the counter. That’s because Matt MacFarlane has taken the role of postmaster, with his duties officially starting October 1.
MacFarlane hails from Duluth where he got his start as a city letter carrier soon after graduating from Denfeld High School in 2007. Over a handful of years he worked his way up to become a supervisor in the Duluth area.
When asked what brought him to Grand Marais he said, “I saw the opportunity open up and I knew I loved this town so I made the move.”
With family along the North Shore and a passion for hunting and skiing, MacFarlane feels that his new position is a good fit. “I couldn’t be happier,” he said when asked how he’s settling into the job, “I don’t plan on going anywhere.”
