Katie Mumm and fiancée Parker Slanga are the new owners of The Fisherman’s Daughter at Dockside Fish Market.

The couple purchased the popular eatery from Kate and Jeremy Keeble (owners of Hungry Hippie Hostel and Hungry Hippie Tacos) and Abby Tofte and Sam Hedstrom (owners of The Big Lake).

North House Folk School, which purchased the Dockside property from long time owners Harley and Shele Tofte in February 2017, has agreed to continue the lease to Slanga and Mumm.

“We are excited to be the new owners of The Fisherman’s Daughter at Dockside! We purchased the business on February 1st and we were open the next day,” Mumm said. “We are currently open Wednesday-Saturday 11-7 p.m. (spread the word!) and plan to open every day with extended hours over the summer season.”

Katie, a very talented outdoors photographer who has had many pictures appear in the Cook County News-Herald, isn’t new to the business.

“I have been working for The Fisherman’s Daughter since 2020 and will continue in my role in the front of the house, full time,” Katie said. “Parker is an electrician for North Shore Electric and will continue to do that and help at the restaurant when needed. We have added Stephanie Slanga as our business manager, and she will be a key part of this business! All our amazing staff stayed, and we will grow our team as summer approaches.”

Fresh fish will continue to be supplied by local fisherman Tyler Smith, Zachary Smith and Eric Brisson, who launched their business North Superior Fishery in 2020.

When asked about any changes to the menu, Katie responded, “The menu will stay the same with some small additions. We will continue to sell smoked fish, fresh fish and, of course, the all popular Fish & Chips. We are very passionate about supporting our local fishing heritage and feel this is very important to continue. We will also incorporate some non-fish items daily lunch specials and expand the gourmet grocery offerings. We are the perfect spot to grab lunch to go or eat in and enjoy the beautiful harbor view.”
