There’s nothing like watching a great video of a beautiful place; it’s fun, exciting, and educational. Now take that video, add sound, put it on a large, high resolution, interactive touchscreen, and the experience goes from memorable to magical.
The Visit Cook County (VCC) Information Center in Grand Marais recently installed a multi-media kiosk offering this magical experience. It features breathtaking videos of the North Shore and Cook County and came to VCC by way of the Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE) at Hamline University in St. Paul.
“We are thrilled to have this amazing addition to our Visitor Center,” said VCC Executive Director Linda Jurek. “It’s a great opportunity for us.”
The Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE) at Hamline University’s School of Education has been in existence since 1990, and works “to foster environmental literacy and stewardship in citizens of all ages.” The center is recognized as a leader in web-based environmental education and the “strategic use of multimedia based technology to create and support global communities of learners committed to the stewardship of local environments.”
Visit Cook County is in the early stages of collaboration with CGEE. The goal is to place kiosks in targeted locations around the upper Midwest and create programming that highlights the incredible natural beauty of Cook County, particularly during the off-seasons. “The possibilities are pretty awesome,” added Jurek. “We are always looking for ways to attract visitors during our slower times of the year. This project has great potential in that regard.”
