Longtime visitors, and now permanent Cook County residents, Sandy and Jack McHugh of Red Pine Realty are enjoying their new employment and their dream-turned-reality of being here full time.

Sandy and Jack McHugh of Caribou Lake, north of Lutsen are the newest faces at Red Pine Realty in Grand Marais. Prior to moving to Cook County in December they had lived in the Twin Cities where they met and worked together for General Mills as project managers. Referring to beginning in the real estate field Sandy says, “There are a lot of transferable skills.”

They were married five years ago after Jack’s retirement from General Mills.

As frequent visitors to Cook County for many years they’ve enjoyed hiking and snowshoeing on the Superior Hiking Trail where they have volunteered for trail maintenance. Jack says of Cook County, “We have stayed all over the county and there’s nothing that we don’t love about it.”

During one of their trips to the area the couple was looking for some seasonal property to purchase. It was then they decided to become permanent residents. Jack stated, “We just decided to pull the plug and go.”

Sandy added, “Two days earlier we had hiked the White Sky Trail that overlooked the house and never imagined that we would live there.”

Jack, who was born and raised in Arizona but loves the Minnesota winters agreed, “That had always been my dream and I didn’t think it would happen.”

In the past they were always involved with their local area in human services and hospice work and they look forward to getting involved with the similar activities here.

Sandy summed up their new career, “We’ve enjoyed it so far. We’re enthusiastic and eager to work with people who are interested in buying and selling property. We just love people and we are thrilled to be part of the great team at Red Pine. This is a wonderfully welcoming community and so are the great people we’ve met so far.”
