New faces at Birch Grove Community Center

Birch Grove would like to introduce our new managers at the Birch Grove Center. Please welcome Brenda Nelson Melin and Nancy Iverson.

Brenda Nelson Melin was raised in Lutsen and in times gone by (we won’t mention how long ago those times were) was a student at Birch Grove! Brenda then went on to Cook County High School. She has been living and working in the Twin Cities, but several years ago decided to return to her roots and family and came back to the North Shore.

Most recently Brenda finished up the summer season at the Cross River Heritage Center in Schroeder, and we are delighted that she is going to be at Birch Grove as our interim program manager.

Brenda enjoys doing things that allow her to express her artistic side. Most especially she enjoys photography, painting and woodcarving.

Please stop in to renew old acquaintances or introduce yourself to her. She is an upbeat welcoming person and is ready to meet everyone and find out how we can best serve the needs of the West End.

Nancy Iverson lives on the North Shore with her husband, Cliff. Living and working in Tofte, Nancy is well suited to filling the role of office manager for the Birch Grove Foundation.

Being a tireless worker, she is also in the real estate business with Timber Wolf Realty.

If that is not enough, there is soon to be an addition to the clan with grandchild number six arriving on the scene. The announcement was just made public recently and the new arrival will be another girl. The scorecard of cousins reads ladies 6, gentlemen 0. That is a great deal of tulle, glitter, and fairy wings, to say nothing of the investment in American Girl dolls!

Nancy will be working mostly in the afternoons, so if you need to reach her and she is not available, call the Foundation at 218-663- 7977 and leave a message.

Please join us at Birch Grove for a number of events and activities, such as exercise classes, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Senior Lunch on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Please call the foundation office to let us know if you are planning to attend.

And don’t forget—Pickle ball on Thursdays from 9 – 11 a.m.

Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we will offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens. This week’s submission is about Birch Grove Community Center courtesy of Coralyn Koschinska.
