Robert and Bonnie Vornbrock of Caring Chiropractic have joined the staff at the Grand Marais Wellness Center, recently moving here from Deer River where Robert had a chiropractic practice the past 13 years.

Bonnie is the friendly new receptionist and Robert is the friendly new chiropractor at the Wellness Center. Robert will work on Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays, filling in when Dr. Loren Stoner is off. “I will also do some emergency work on Saturdays if needed,” he said.

The couple bought a house about five miles up the Gunflint Trail. The move to Cook County was a welcome one, said Robert. “We have always liked it here. We’re excited to be here.”

Specializing in chiropractic care, acupuncture and offering holistic nutritional counseling, Robert has 23 years of chiropractic work under his belt.

“I grew up in St. Cloud and attended college at Morris, then Bemidji. I graduated from Logan College in St. Louis, Missouri with a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree,” he said.

The first 10 years of his practice almost took him home. He worked in St. Joseph, Minnesota, which is near St. Cloud.

Describing his work, Robert said, “I use gentle, low force techniques. I use gentle motions and sometimes some instruments to help stretch backs to get vertebrae back in place.”

As far as nutritional advice, the fit doctor who runs, walks, canoes and kayaks when he has the time, says, “I use elimination and detox diets. Although I use some supplements,

I believe eating good food and getting one’s diet right is the key to gaining and maintaining good health.”

Eating organic food is also good, said Vornbrock, “because getting fewer chemicals in your body is always better for you.”

Depression can be linked to diet, he said. “When you are depressed you have a tendency to eat bad things that might make you feel better for awhile. But after awhile it becomes a cycle. The more you eat those bad things, the worse your diet is. The good thing is that cycles can be broken.”

The Vornbrocks have five grown children and “some grandchildren that think they are grown up,” said Robert with a smile. For now they are learning about the county, meeting people and finding new trails to hike and waters to paddle. Easy going, friendly, approachable and affirming, the Vornbrocks should have little trouble in their quest to make Cook County their new home.
