Great Expectations School (GES) in Grand Marais held its annual meeting on Tuesday, November 11.
Attendees received an update on the school’s performance in connection with Minnesota’s “World’s Best Workforce” legislation and elected new board members. As a public charter school, GES is run by a board made up of parents, educators, and community members.
Elected Tuesday were Mike Carlson, community member, and Kathryn Nelson-Pedersen, educator member. The two joined Sue Butter, Sara Hingos, Jeff Kern, Jeanne Monson, and ex-officio members Amy Henrikson and Peter James on the board.
“Including teachers in governance roles is a key aspect of the charter school law,” said GES Director Peter James. “Having their perspectives combined with those of parents and outside community members helps ensure we’re keeping the focus on what’s best for our students.”
Great Expectations School is in its 12th year of operation and serves the families of students in kindergarten through eighth grade from across Cook County.
