Neva H. Marks,

Neva H. Marks, 97, of Grand Marais, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Cook County Care Center. She had been a resident there for 18 years.

Neva was born in Shell Lake, Wisconsin on July 5, 1917 to Dan and Elmie (Goslon) Staples. She was married to Thomas Marks Sr. for 66 years until his death in 2006.

Neva was a godly woman and taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Marais.

Neva worked many jobs to help support the family until she nearly died being hit by a car walking home from lunch in 1978. After recovering from severe injuries, she could no longer work out of the home, but was a wonderful homemaker. She prepared delicious meals and there were always cookies in the cookie jar. Neva did the best she could until her health failed and she went to live at the care center.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters, Alice and Evelena; brothers Vernon Frank and Obern and great-granddaughter Katlin.

Neva is survived by her sons, Thomas (Barbara) Marks Jr. of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, Daniel (Mary Ann) Marks Sr. of Duluth; daughter Barbara (John) Remes of Proctor; six granddaughters; one grandson; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons; brother Dwain of Grand Marais and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cook County Care Center as well as the doctors and nurses at the hospital for all of the excellent care they provided. Also a special thank you to Nelda Westerlind for her devotion, visiting mom, praying with her and reading passages from the Bible every Wednesday. Neva was never without her Bible purse and stuffed animals which she loved.

Family interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Minnesota.

Rest In Peace
