Native Report and Almanac North win two national Native Media Awards


WDSE•WRPT, a public media organization based in Duluth, Minnesota, is pleased to announce that two of its premier local productions, Native Report and Almanac North, have won two 2021 National Native Media Awards.

These prestigious honors were awarded by the Native American Journalists Association, the National Native Media Awards recognize excellence in reporting by Indigenous and non-Indigenous Native Report, WDSE•WRPT’s nationally distributed series celebrating Native American heritage and culture, produced by team members who are enrolled members of tribal nations, won second place for General Excellence in the Professional Television Division. Almanac North, WDSE•WRPT’s long-running weekly public affairs program, won second place for Best Feature Story within the Professional Television Division.

The award-winning pieces were produced by Michael LeGarde, Ramona Marozas, and Greg Grell, with additional support from Lance Haavisto.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition from the Native American Journalists Association,” said Ramona Marozas, a tribal member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in Odanah, WI and Multiplatform Producer for Native Report and Almanac North. “Amplifying Native voices, Nations and traditions is at the heart of what we do and receiving this recognition from our journalist peers of Indian Country for doing that work is a true honor.”
