Besides being a lot of work, babies are cute, cuddly, and lots of fun. In the spirit of fun, the Cook County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program has announced the winner in a contest to name its group for mothers who are breastfeeding their babies.
WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Angie Works said, “I was so pleasantly surprised and excited by the wonderful turnout. There were 21 name suggestions submitted, and everyone seemed very enthusiastic and supportive.
“The names were great! Lots of effort and creativity and thoughtfulness went into the ideas. It is so refreshing to see such a response, and from people from all walks of life.
“The names were voted on by a panel of judges comprised of WIC professionals, nursing students, and mothers.”
Because the good ideas were so plentiful, the judges announced two runners up, who submitted “Best-feeding Group” and “Mama Milk.” Submitting the winning name was Eric Frost with “Bosom Buddies.” All three will receive gift certificates to Moguls Grille and Tap Room in Caribou Highlands Lodge in Lutsen. “Caribou Highlands and Moguls are happy to help support the health and wellbeing of babies and families of Cook County,” Works said.
Cook County News-Herald Associate Editor Jane Howard secretly submitted Editor Rhonda Silence’s idea, “Boobies for Babies,” which didn’t win an award but was much appreciated anyway.
Bosom Buddies meets the first Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic lower level classroom. The group is open to all breastfeeding women and is free of charge.
