Mystery Trips and Canopy Tour

August was a month of travel for the Cook County Senior Center. On Monday, August 23, the Senior Center took another “Mystery Trip.” Seniors traveled north, up the Caribou Trail in Lutsen and then on to the back roads including The Grade.

The Mystery Tour participants stopped and enjoyed the view from the public landing at Two Island Campground. They had a delicious lunch at The Landing on Devil Track Lake.

They then visited Cook County Airport where Rod Roy gave us a very educational and interesting tour of the airport and some of his project planes that they are working on restoring.

Seniors topped off the fun day with a treat at Dairy Queen. We would like to extend a special thank you to the folks who helped make this trip so much fun, including Warren Anderson and Rod Roy.

On Monday, August 27, seniors had a fun trip to Duluth. They enjoyed a delicious Chinese Lunch at Huie’s Chopsticks Inn. Then they boarded the Vista Star for a wonderful scenic and informative 1¾-hour tour of the Duluth harbor and Lake Superior. They finished off the day with some shopping in Two Harbors and a treat at Culver’s. It was a wonderful trip with a group of great folks.

Coming up is an exciting Gunflint Lodge lunch and Towering Pines Canopy Tour extravaganza trip on Wednesday, September 19. Roundtrip transportation plus the 2½-hour Canopy Tour is $70 per person (tax included). This is a huge savings—the Canopy Tour alone with tax is approximately $85. If you prefer to read a book, play cards or just relax on the deck while the adventurous souls take the canopy tour, the cost for roundtrip transportation is only $14.

Another great fall tour will take place Wednesday, September 26. You won’t find a better vantage point from which to view the Sawtooth Mountains and Lake Superior’s dramatic coastline than the Lutsen Mountains tram. This aerial tramway is one of the North Shore’s most popular attractions, taking you on a scenic ride to the top of Moose Mountain, rising 1,000 feet over Lake Superior. The gentle ride at treetop level is an experience not to be missed!

Ride the Mountain tram, visit and take pictures and enjoy lunch at the chalet at the top of Moose Mountain. Enjoy the beautiful fall colors! The cost is just $29 per person which includes roundtrip transportation, tram ride, lunch (sandwich, soup or salad, dessert and beverage).

For more information or for registration of any of these upcoming trips, stop in or call the Senior Center at 387-2660. And remember, the Cook County Senior Center is open and welcoming to all of all ages!
