On Sunday, December 6 from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m., My Sister’s Place restaurant in Grand Marais will be donating half of all meals served to the ALS Association of Minnesota. Restaurant owners Paul and Cara Sporn are making this offer on behalf of Tom and Kathy Bernier of Grand Marais who are riding in the Blackwoods Blizzard Tour, a three-day snowmobile ride in support of victims of ALS and their families.
ALS, (short for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is better known as Lou Gerhig’s disease. It is a fatal degenerative disease that affects the central nervous system. There is no known cause and no known cure, which is why the Bernier are making the ride. The tour motto is “Never Surrender.”
Special desserts and homemade caramels will also be for sale. Also, anyone who donates $10 over the cost of his or her meal will be entered in a drawing for a jar of homemade caramels. Anyone who donates $20 over the cost of his or her meal will be entered in a drawing for a one-hour massage. “Come on out—it’s a good cause. We’ll be happy to see you,” said Kathy Bernier.
Other Cook County residents taking part in the 2009 Blackwoods Blizzard Tour are Ron “Carbine” Carlson of Hovland and Charles Silence of Grand Marais.
