Two St. Scholastica medical students recently completed their clinical studies at Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center. Before leaving for the next stage of their training, they offered a concert of Irish music at the Care Center on Friday, June 26. Matthew Johnson played spoons, with assistance from daughter Lucia. His friend and classmate Laura Greensmith played the fiddle and entertained Care Center residents with her fancy clogging. Laura’s mother Marge Smith joined in on a pennywhistle.

Activities Assistant Nora Bockovich said the performance was delightful. “We were able to sing along. Many songs were old favorites, like You Are My Sunshine—but they were very different, very Irish,” said Bockovich. “The residents just loved it.”

Matthew’s parents, Rod and Jan Johnson of Poplar Lake, Grand Marais, also enjoyed the performance.
