The Cook County Historical Society will host an opening reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23 to welcome a new museum exhibit, Music from the Tip ’O the Arrowhead.
Musical traditions and destinations abound in Cook County, and the latest exhibit celebrates 100 years of dances, pow wows, concerts, and festivals. Follow the development of musical traditions from 1917 when the “outlaw” bridge border crossing allowed international gatherings… all the way to today’s music scene. Local venues and musicians are featured with photos, posters, and video.
You can learn about the various artists, bands, combos, and ensembles of the past. As part of this “growing” exhibit, residents are encouraged to add their own memories and memorabilia to the community music scrapbook, as well as play a tune on the exhibit’s electric piano!
The opening reception will feature live music and refreshments. The event is free. Call the museum, located at 8 S. Broadway, Grand Marais, at (218) 387-2883 for more information.
