Twenty-five years of bringing high quality, eclectic music to the North Shore of Lake Superior is reason to celebrate! Join the North Shore Music Association for an evening of anniversary festivities, including a silent auction fundraiser for NSMA, a Cook County Food Shelf benefit, musical performance by Duluth’s rising-star singer/songwriter Rachael Kilgour, and a
delectable slice of birthday cake from Lola’s Sweet Life Bakery.
Kicking off the Oct. 9 event, at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, NSMA’s silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., featuring high-quality items from Cook County merchants and businesses. Packaged goods and monetary donations for the Cook County Food Shelf will also be accepted. At 7 p.m., settle down for a musical performance by Rachael Kilgour, whose stunning musical talent, intelligent lyrics, and heartbreakingly beautiful voice carry out her vision to create social change. Join the cake-cutting ceremony with Grand Marais Mayor Sue Hakes and Chel Anderson, NSMA board president.
Rachael Kilgour, former backup singer and violinist for Catie Curtis and Sara Thomsen, sings about love, heartache, family, and social justice with determination and charm.
Kilgour released her debut, selftitled album in December of 2008. The recording was produced by Twin Cities indiefolk starlet Haley Bonar. Kilgour (vocals, guitar and violin) was bolstered by the talents of bassist Matt Mobley, percussionist Dan Westerlund, background vocalist Adeline Wright and Twin Cities electric guitarist Jake Hanson.
In February 2009, Kilgour announced her intent to donate 50
percent of all of her live show profits to a local cause or charity of her choice. “It’s one thing to sing about the stuff that needs changing in the world,” says Kilgour. “It’s another to actually give it a try.” At the Grand Marais concert, Kilgour will be donating half of her artist’s fee to the Cook County Food Shelf.
