Senator Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook) was among four state legislators to receive the “Outstanding Legislator for 2012” award from the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA).
The MSBA’s award recognizes the contributions Bakk made during the recent legislative session to help Minnesota students and school board members. Specifically, the award recognizes Bakk’s work to establish a school trust funds director and oversight commission. By appointing a director with a 12-member commission, this legislative change allows for better management of school trust lands in order to optimize school land revenues that aid school districts across Minnesota.
“I’m honored to receive this award, and I’m proud of the bi-partisan cooperation that the MSBA facilitated to get this important bill on school trust lands passed into law,” said Bakk. “We were able to increase education funding without increasing taxes or borrowing.”
The MSBA is a private nonprofit organization that provides cost-saving programs, management support, board training, advocacy, research and referral for all of Minnesota’s public schools.
