Wearing a helmet when biking is a good idea. Here’s one example of someone who was wisely wearing a helmet when she fell.
The Cook County Sheriff ’s Office received a call for help at 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, June 10 to assist a mountain biker who was riding on the Pincushion Mountain trails and had gone over her handlebars, falling on her head, cracking her helmet.
Two people arrived on the scene shortly after the woman, believed to be in her 40s-50, fell, according to one of the helpers who happened to be a first responder.
Two sheriff deputies and two Grand Marais firefighters responded to the scene within minutes of receiving the call. The woman, who had been riding on the Talus Trail, was taken to the North Shore Health hospital for evaluation. She arrived at the hospital 35 minutes after the call for help went into the sheriff ’s dispatch. She was treated and released from the hospital.
If she had not been wearing a helmet, the outcome could have been very different.
