The Empty Bowls Dinner & Silent Auction, a fundraiser for the community food shelf, will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 at the First Congregational Church. For a few more weeks on Sunday and Monday, community members have the opportunity to make a bowl—or two—for the benefit.
Students will learn hand-building and wheel-throwing while making two bowls for the fundraiser. Kjersti Vick, cochair of the Empty Bowls Committee, said, “Come get muddy and learn some new skills, all for a good cause. It’s fun to make bowls with friends and family, too!”
Head to the Art Colony for one of the two weekly sessions— Sundays from 2-3 p.m. and Mondays from 7-8 p.m. Or join friends and family for the popular “Paint-a-Bowl” event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the Art Colony.
And finally, mark your calendar for the dinner itself, on Nov. 10. Like last year there will be two seatings for the soup dinner—11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 5-7 p.m.
The Cook County Food Shelf is providing food to more families than ever this year said Gwen Lenz, coordinator of the Food Shelf. The Empty Bowls Dinner & Silent Auction is an important source of income for the organization. Last year, Empty Bowls brought in $5,250 to the Food Shelf.
