More information wanted in school story

A March 13th article (“ISD 166 Opens Its Doors”) described some of the changes at Cook County Schools that have taken place due to Covid, but there were some important omissions that bear addressing.

Cook County Schools opened its doors to the children of essential workers in September, the day after Labor Day. This child care was provided by paraprofessionals and has not stopped since that time.

On October 22, Sawtooth Mountain Elementary opened its doors to students who chose to return to the building. Teachers and paraprofessionals in Kindergarten through third-grade classrooms have been teaching those students since then, except when all schools in Cook County returned to full distance learning from December 1st thru January 15th.

On January 19th, Sawtooth Elementary reopened, PK-5th grade, after the full distance learning hiatus. Students and teachers in the elementary have been doing hybrid learning with students in classrooms ever since.

Any time students have returned to the classroom, teachers have also served our distance learners simultaneously.
