With small businesses pummeled across the state and nation because of COVID-19 restrictions, it’s nice to see one try something new.
Moose Tracks is trying something different this year. For the first time in 17 years, Moose Tracks has winter hours, staying open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Michael (Mike) Farnum, Grand Marais, is managing the store. Farnum said it’s been hard to get the word out to folks to let them know that the store is open during the winter, albeit for limited days and hours. But if folks do show up, they might well be impressed by what the store has to offer.
“We have a lot of inventory to select from,” said Farnum.
And indeed, going through the store, one can only be fascinated by the large array of north shore themed t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, knick-knacks, mugs, pullovers, stretch pants, shot glasses and souvenirs to choose from with prices that won’t blow up the family budget.
“I know people aren’t always willing to come and shop because of COVID- 19,” Farnum, said. “So, for those folks, we have set up a Facebook page where people can see what we have to offer. They can use our Facebook page to select items and order them. Its old school meets technology,” he said as he smiled.
The store is located at the site of the former Leng’s Fountain at 5 Wisconsin Street, Grand Marais.
If you don’t like any of the themes on a shirt, find a shirt style you want, and they may be able to customize it.
“We have a hot press in the store that allows us to customize some items,” noted Farnum.
To get to the store’s Facebook page, Google Moose Tracks Grand Marais, and it will take you right to the site.
For kids, big and small, Farnum added, “We also carry stuffed moose and stuffed unicorns to pick from.”
