Photo by Kristen Theisen Michael Youngquist of Grand Marais and his grandson Zachary Theisen, 9, of Maple Grove, MN were the persistent “moose hunters” who located the Moose Medallion hidden at the Grand Marais Recreation Park during 2009 Moose Madness in Grand Marais. Where was the medallion? It was just off the Sweetheart’s Bluff overlook trail, taped to the underside of the decking at the picnic shelter. Congratulations Michael and Zachary!
Moose Madness 2009 has come and gone. For several days, moose events took center stage in
Grand Marais and festival mascot “Murray” strolled the streets distributing treats for kids and “I
saw a moose in Grand Marais” buttons to all. Thanks to the 50-plus cartoonists who took part in
the Cook County News-Herald “Moose on the Loose” cartoon contest! See the winners below.

Staff photo/ Rhonda Silence The weather was nice for a walk along the Grand Marais harbor. Chad and Theo took a break and visited with Murray.
