Moose hunt memory will last forever

This letter is in response to Parker Behrendsen’s letter to the editor dated October 31, 2009. I, as a resident of Cook County (not Georgia), applaud the photo of the young girl with the bull moose she had taken during the 2009 Minnesota moose season.

This hunt is restricted to residents only and is a once in a lifetime hunt. I personally have been applying for the past 10 years with no luck yet.

Why would anyone be ashamed of a young girl on her first hunt? This is something she and her father will remember forever.

Hunting has been a tradition in this state for my family and many others who enjoy the outdoors. Sportsmen and women are the true stewards of the land. Hunting generates millions of dollars into the state and local economy.

Since moose hunting is a once in a lifetime hunt, I can attest to the fact that the lucky ones that do get a license are not out to just shoot and kill a moose to let it lie there in the woods. The meat is wonderful and can feed a family for months!

We are losing more and more sportsmen/ women every year and it is welcome to see younger people take up the activity of hunting.

People enjoy the outdoors in their own way; hunting is just one way that I and many others enjoy it! As I sit in my deer stand this coming season I will be thinking of you and how I am enjoying the outdoors hunting!
